Has YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy given up hope on forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next elections?
It appears so, if one were to go by the statement issued by him on Wednesday evening condemning the arrest of Communist party leaders Penuballi Madhu (CPM) and K Ramakrishna (CPI) who had been fighting for the evacuees of Vamsadhara project in Srikakulam district.
Jagan said the Communist leaders had taken up the cause of the people and instead of attending to the issue by paying rightful compensation due to the evacuees, the Chandrababu Naidu government was targeting the Left party leaders.
Perhaps, this was the first time after several months that Jagan had responded positively on the Left parties.
After Jagan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and extended his party support to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections without any conditions, the Left parties strongly attacked him and accused him of surrendering to the BJP in order to come out of the CBI cases.
Though Jagan did not directly react to these allegations, his party leaders strongly issued a rebuttal, casting the Communists. Later, the Left parties started inclining towards the Jana Sena Party floated by power star Pawan Kalyan.
Till recently, there had been indications that Jagan might go friendly with the BJP. But it appears there was no positive response from the BJP to Jagan’s overtures. His lobbying with the Central leaders to get exemption from attending the trial court proceedings also seem to have failed.
That is precisely why Jagan has once again taken up the issue of Special Category Status to AP, which has almost been forgotten. Though he refrained from making any attack on Modi, he sounded critical of the BJP for ignoring the SCS issue.
Now by issuing statement in support of the Left parties, Jagan has given the impression that he has once again turned Left from Right!
