Is It Capital City or Gated Community?

Actor-turned-Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan on Saturday wondered why the Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh was acquiring thousands of acres for the construction of capital city at Amaravati.

Addressing a convention on 2013-Land Acquisition Act at Uddandarayunipalem in Amaravati, Pawan recalled that during his early discussions with Naidu, the latter told him that only 1800 acres were required to be acquired from the people for the capital city and some more land could be acquired by denotifying the forest land.

“But now, it appears the land being acquired for the capital is going to be around one lakh acres. The government is forcibly acquiring fertile land from farmers in the name of land pooling and is doing real estate business with it. Naidu says it will be a world class capital city. I wonder whether it is going to be a gated community or a capital city?” he asked.

The JSP president vowed to stop the construction of the capital city, if the government did not stop land acquisition from farmers.

“You can’t take decisions according to your whims and fancies. I won’t spare you if he take unilateral decisions without consulting farmers. I will stop the capital Amaravati and we ensure that it won't happen,” he said.

He warned of Maharashtra type agitation if Amaravati land acquisition was not stopped.

“I will mobilise one lakh farmers from every district and storm Amaravati. Let me also see how you will go ahead with the capital works,” Pawan asserted.

Pawan claimed that Janasena along with the Communist parties would do the movement against the AP capital.
