A newspaper has carried a story saying that the farmers will be given Rs 2 crores per acre in compensation.
If the government sticks to its promise and buys the land for Rs 2 crores per acre, the farmers will willingly sell their land without thinking twice.
In fact, even if the government fixes Rs 1 crore as compensation, many of them might not have any problem to give away the land.
But the twist in this seemingly ‘profitable’ story is that once the farmers give the land to the government as per the land pooling process, the government would give them 1000 sq feet in return.
So, the deal is that after 10 years, the land value is expected to become Rs 20,000 per sq ft. And if the farmers sell their land then, they would get Rs 2 crores.
Meanwhile, there is common opinion all over that the government must stop pooling farm lands to develop the capital city. They say it would be best if they used the forest lands for the purpose.
If the government goes ahead with its current plan, then it would be detrimental to the farmers in the area says ex minister Parthasarathi.
Well this is one angle. There are also opinions that media should not be carrying such stories to support the government’s point of view.
