Heated Politics In Nandyal Again!

Heated Politics In Nandyal Again!

Nandyal town in Kurnool district, which had witnessed heated politics in August this year due to by-elections to the assembly seat, is all set to turn politically hot again.

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced the schedule for conducting by-elections to the MLC seat in Kurnool under local bodies’ quota.

The seat has fallen vacant due to resignation of former MLC Silpa Chakrapani Reddy from Nandyal.

He got elected on the Telugu Desam Party ticket in April this year, but was forced to resign from his MLC seat when he wanted to defect to the YSR Congress party to support his brother Silpa Mohan Reddy, who contested from Nandyal assembly constituency in the by-elections on YSRC ticket. However, the TDP won the seat with a resounding margin.

Now, the by-election to the MLC seat under local bodies’ quota will be held on January 12. The notification will be issued on December 19 and the last date for nomination is December 26. The results will be declared on January 16.

Needless to say, both the TDP and the YSRC will take the elections as a matter of prestige.

In the last MLC elections, Chakrapani Reddy who was then in the TDP had to face a tough time, because he had to tackle both the YSRC and also his anti-groups within the TDP led by former Nandyal MLA late Bhuma Nagi Reddy (who was also a defector from the YSRC).

However, TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu managed to convince Bhuma Nagi Reddy to support Chakrapani Reddy by promising that he would be accommodated in the cabinet. But for Bhuma’s support, Chakrapani would have lost the elections.

With Bhuma passing away and his daughter Akhila Priya yet to gain the grip over the party politics in the district, it would be difficult for the TDP to win the seat.

While YSR Congress party will definitely field Chakrapani Reddy again, it remains to be seen who the TDP will nominate for the MLC elections. In any case, it is going to be a tough battle once again in the MLC elections!
