For the first time in nearly a year, the Governor has stepped in and responded to AP's concerns, with definite action.
Dr. BR Ambedkar University and Telugu University on instructions from the Telangana government claimed full control over the institutions as per the AP Re-Org Act. Henceforth, it claimed that AP would have no jurisdiction.
Now there are many Seemandhra students enrolled in these universities who would have been at a disadvantage following these instructions. Dr. BR Ambedkar University in fact has many study centres across AP.
The University said that those study centres would be shut down and students enrolled there would now have to come to Hyderabad. If AP needed any assistance from the universities, they would have to submit a request in writing to the Telangana government which would then consider the request on merit.
This time, the AP government did not even bother to respond to the Telangana government but expressed its concerns directly to the Governor. And surprise, surprise!
The Governor straightaway issued instructions to both th Universities asking them to maintain the status quo in all decisions including new admissions, until further decisions were taken by him.
Naturally, the TRS government is displeased and is seeking the opinion of its advocate general. But this is the first time that the Governor has acted decisively in an issue and used the powers bestowed on him. And this is what is expected of him. Not decisions in favor of AP or Telangana, but fair decisions!
