Mining tycoon and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, who hit the national headlines by performing his daughter’s marriage in the most ostentatious manner, is said to be planning to make a grand re-entry into politics very soon.
Gali, who had once virtually controlled the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka, went into political oblivion after the Central Bureau of Investigation began probing into his illegal mining activities which culminated in his arrest on September 5, 2011. He was released on bail only last year.
Though he has not come out in the open in the last one year, Gali, with his daughter’s marriage, proved that he was no less influential person in Karnataka politics even now. Notwithstanding instructions from the top, several BJP leaders including state BJP president Yeddyurappa attended the wedding.
During the meeting, the BJP leaders are learnt to have invited him back into the party, since he still wields influence in the state with his social service activities.
They told him that the CBI case won’t be any hurdle in his return to politics, as many businessmen with such cases are continuing in politics. If he rejoins the BJP, the Centre will take care of his cases. His follower B Sriramulu, who had earlier floated the BSR Congress party, has already returned to the BJP fold.
Gali, who has been under pressure from his followers also to get back into politics, told them that if the BJP top leadership gives green signal, he would consider the offer.
