Even The Dead Are Not Safe

The villagers of Krishnayapalem stand in danger of losing their homes after the expressway proposal in the master plan will cut right through their villages.

The villagers had parted with their lands for the new capital after being given an assurance that their villages would in no way be disturbed. And before they can digest this betrayal by the government, they were in for another shocker.

The master plan now intends to remove the burial ground in their village and convert it into a reservoir.

Chandrababu Naidu has warned the villagers that any opposition will result in fall in land prices. But the villagers are not taken in by his threat. They have passed resolutions against earmarking the site meant for burial ground to a reservoir.

The show of open defiance by the land owners, most of them supporters of the Telugu Desam, has stumped the Ministers and the CRDA, forcing the latter to start a dialogue with influential leaders in the village.

As we can see, in Naidu’s regime, even the dead are not safe.
