Dissent In TDP Over Naidu-Cong Dosti!

Dissent In TDP Over Naidu-Cong Dosti!

The talk of Telugu Desam Party entering into an alliance with the Congress party in the next elections, as is being spread in a section of media, has created ripples in the ruling party.

Though TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu did not discuss the issue of forging an alliance with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh, he reportedly hinted at such a possibility in Telangana in order to protect the identity of the party and also defeat the TRS which is trying to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Yet, a section of media has predicted that the TDP will have a similar alliance with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh, too, to consolidate the vote.

The Congress party, too, needs the support of the TDP at the national level to defeat the BJP and bring the grand alliance to power at the Centre.

However, it is not yet clear whether it will be pre-poll alliance or post-poll alliance between the TDP and the AP.

While the Congress said it would contest all the seats in AP, Naidu so far has not made any such statement.

Yet, the talk has triggered resentment within the TDP. Senior minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu made a strong statement saying he would resign from the party if the TDP gets into any alliance with the Congress.

“The party has been founded on the basis of anti-Congressism. How can we go with them?” he asked.

He said people would strip the TDP leaders and beat them with chappals if the party joins hands with the Congress.

“It will be an irreparable mistake on the part of the party leadership to make friendship with the Congress,” he said.
