Deputy CM's Son In Illegal Sand Mining?

Andhra deputy chief minister K E Krishna Murthy’s son K E Shyam Babu is said to be allegedly involved in the illegal sand mining in Kurnool district, a fact which even the Hyderabad high court has observed.

The high court is learnt to have issued directions to the AP government to question the son of deputy CM in this regard.

The petitioners alleged that Syam Babu had been indulging in illegal sand mining in Handri riverbed using heavy machinery, after the introduction of the state's 'free sand' policy.

The high court sought to know why the officials of the mining and revenue departmetns had not verified the allegations and why action was not taken against the deputy CM’s son if the allegations were true.

Surprisingly, the authorities did not even name Syam in the FIR, following complaint from the villagers.

In January this year, the National Green Tribunal had directed both the Telugu state governments to make sure that there was no mechanical sand mining on the riverbeds in the states.
