Cost Of Secretariat To Cross Rs 2,000 Cr?

Cost Of Secretariat To Cross Rs 2,000 Cr?

The temporary Secretariat complex coming up at Velagapudi village as part of Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, appears to be turning out to be a white elephant for the Chandrababu Naidu government.

The original estimated cost of construction for the six lakh square feet of construction was Rs 600 crore. It was supposed to be completed by June 15, but the builders are showing one excuse after the other to delay the construction as a result of which the cost of construction is going up steeply.

According to revised estimates, the cost of construction of only buildings is expected to go up by another Rs 250 crore. Taking into account the cost of infrastructure inside the building, such as furniture, electric works and interiors, the total cost would go up to Rs 1,000 crore.

Besides, the builders are learnt to have proposed laying of connecting roads from highway to Velagapudi, which would cost another Rs 850 crore.

“By the time all these works are completed, the total cost would go up to Rs 2,000 crore. Surprisingly, all these additional works are being given to the builders on nomination basis, without calling for tenders,” sources said.
