Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has once again gained the upper hand over the Congress party. And the Opposition party leaders have proved that they are absolutely no match to KCR’s tactics.
This has become evident with the way the KCR government handled the Mallanna Sagar issue. Though it has all the potential to be exploited as a major political issue, like the Nandigram issue of West Bengal, that could shake the throne of KCR, the Congress leaders completely goofed it up due to lack of consistency in their stands.
While some leaders like Marri Sashidhar Reddy tried to mobilise the public opinion against the construction of very project, others like PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader Jana Reddy declared that they were not against the project as such, but only wanted a fair compensation to the displaced families.
This incoherent stand within the Congress was exploited by the KCR government. In fact, the credit should go to KCR’s nephew and irrigation minister T Harish Rao. He operated from Siddipet and Gajwel and personally handled the situation.
While preventing the Opposition party leaders from entering the affected villages, Harish personally interacted with the people from one village after the other and forced them to surrender their lands.
The registration of lands was done and payments were made to villagers within a couple of days. Now, there is nothing that the Congress leaders can do now, except surrendering to the TRS!
