Congress Is Showing Its True Colours

Congress can take credit for giving Telangana, but if they regret that bifurcation did not assure them power, then they are bound to face the same fate for a long time to come.

The party has been wiped out completely in Andhra Pradesh. The party has been defeated completely during the recently concluded general elections. In fact, the party would not have anticipated such a bad show.

As far as Telangana is concerned, the party fell flat on its face despite facilitating bifurcation.

So, many blame the lack of coordination and cooperation within senior party leaders for its debacle. But political analysts say that the actual reason is totally different. Though the Telangana people have agitated for a separate state for the past 10 years, the Congress relented only towards the end of its term and this has resulted in Telangana people being alienated from the party, they say.

Had the party given Telangana three to four years back, then it would have won over Telangana people and it would have assured them power for many years to come. However, no matter what the political analysts say, the Congress had its own game plan in place, though it boomeranged in the last minute.

The party maintained that they did not facilitate bifurcation with any ulterior motives. But now, their leaders including Digvijay Singh who played a very important role in making Sonia give Telangana has publicly expressed his unhappiness over losing out on the fruits of his efforts.

While there is no doubt about Congress party’s intention any more, one thing has become clear. They surely did not care for the sentiments of the Seemandhra people and the impact of bifurcation on them.

Had the Congress divided the state at least three years back, then they would have announced a capital for Seemandhra and developed it to some extent before going to the polls. This would have ensured success in Telangana and saved face for the party in Seemandhra. But now, the Seemandhra leaders are totally against Congress for leaving them in a lurch and wrongly timing bifurcation.

However, now bifurcation is history. Congress has no presence in Andhra Pradesh and the situation is likely to remain so for many years to come. But in Telangana, people do have a soft corner for the party which facilitated their dream to come true. Yet, the party is complaining about not getting the benefits of bifurcation.

This might turn detrimental to the future of Congress in days to come. Wonder when the Congress leaders will realize this harsh reality?
