The Congress party was so incensed at losing power that it wanted to defeat the BJP somehow in the Bihar polls. This, all the opposition parties managed to do successfully by coming together for a ‘Grand Alliance’ comprising of Nitish Kumar, Lalu Yadav and the Congress.
The Congress managed to win more than 20 seats and was buoyed up by its success which was far better than expected.
The success of the coalition in Bihar has now led to speculation of the third front or perhaps another alliance of parties across the nation coming together to take on the BJP in 2019.
The Congress was also in support of such an idea. But out of the blue, Farooq Abdullah, ex- chief minister of Kashmir has said that Nitish Kumar should groom himself for the PM race in 2019.
Understandably, this has sent shock waves in the Congress which is looking at the 2019 elections as another Rahul vs Modi tussle.
Congress by supporting Nitish Kumar in Bihar may have kept the BJP at bay, but now Nitish might emerge as a threat to their crown prince himself.
