Cong Looking For Alliances In Telangana?

The Congress party in Telangana seems to be adopting the same strategy which its Central leadership is planning, in the next general and assembly elections.

The Congress is planning to bring together all the non-BJP political forces and build a strong alternative to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

As many as 20 non-BJP parties attended the dinner hosted by Congress parliamentary party chairman Sonia Gandhi at her residence on March 13 and they are likely to join together to form a separate front.

The reason is simple: The Congress high command has realised that it cannot take on the Bharatiya Janata Party alone and it definitely needs the support of more and more regional parties as well.

In Telangana, too, the Congress has fair chances of coming power, provided it can form an alliance with like-minded parties to take on the mighty Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

While negotiations are on with the Left parties, the Congress might also rope in the new party proposed to be founded by Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof Kodandaram. Other splinter Telangana groups, too, might join hands with the Congress.

However, it is too early to say now on the future alliances. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party had not taken any decision on having electoral alliances with other parties.

He said the decision on alliances would be taken at an appropriate time by the Congress high command.

The TPCC Chief also listed out various measures that the Congress party proposes to implement when it is voted to power in 2019 elections.
