Chowdary has better hold in the Centre than Naidu?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had once steered the wheel in the Centre both during the UDF and NDA governments between 1996 and 2004, has now realised that he does not have any say in the Centre and nobody is taking him seriously.

Despite his repeated requests to change the main contractor of Polavaram project – Transstroy promoted by his own party MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, the NDA government has been turning a blind eye towards him.

Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari turned down Naidu’s request for change of contractor, though the latter went all the way to Nagpur to explain the situation personally.

Apparently, Rayapati met Gadkari several times and made friendship with him so as to see that his company be retained as the main contractor of Polavaram.

Having realised that he has lost his hold in the Centre, Naidu made a last ditch attempt to influence the Centre. And the better option is Union minister of state for science and technology Sujana Chowdary, who wields more influence in Delhi.

On Wednesday, Sujana met Gadkari and explained the whole circumstances that led to Naidu’s decision to change the contractor.

He also discussed the issues of cost escalations, rehabilitation packages and pending dues for Polavaram project.

One does not know how Sujana convinced him, Gadkari finally agreed to consider the change of contractor after having a high level meeting with the officials of the state and central governments within a week.

That is Sujana!
