Chiru To Campaign In K'taka For A Day?

Megastar Chiranjeevi has been staying away from active politics for quite some time and the chances of him playing a big role in politics are almost nil.

There were reports that Chiranjeevi, who completed his Rajya Sabha term last month, was offered a key position in the All India Congress Committee by party president Rahul Gandhi, but the former had politely rejected the same saying he was right now busy with his films.

He did not say he was retiring from politics, but refused to take active role in the Congress party.

He even rejected the request of the party high command to campaign for the party in the ongoing Karnataka elections.

However, according to the latest reports, Chiranjeevi has agreed to campaign for the Congress in Karnataka elections for a day or two.

He would address a few rallies in the Telugu-speaking areas of the state. All said and done, Chiranjeevi still has a lot of fan following in Karnataka and his campaign is expected to yield at least some benefit to the party.

Interestingly, Chiranjeevi has also made, for the first time, a comment on the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

While congratulating senior Congress leader Gidugu Rudra Raju on his appointment as AICC secretary, Chiranjeevi expressed hope that the party would come back to power at the Centre in the next elections.

“There is no doubt that Rahul Gandhi will be the next Prime Minister of India in 2019. And I am sure he will grant the special category status to Andhra Pradesh soon after coming to power at the Centre. No other party can do it for Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
