Chennai Floods Spoil IIFA Fete In Hyderabad

The Telangana State Government on Thursday postponed the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards progra, scheduled to be held from December 4 for three days.

In the wake of deluge in Chennai, the Telangana government has decided to put on hold the festivities.

As hundreds of people died and thousands of families are marooned and facing the brunt of the calamity, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asked the officials to postpone the IIFA program.

Andre Timmins, founder-director of Wizcraft International, has announced postponement of the celebration on behalf of the IIFA management.

The IIFA leadership has taken this decision with all the key stakeholders — the South Indian film industry, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Governor ESL Narasimhan.

The first edition of IIFA Utsavam was to be held in Hyderabad between December 4 and 6.

"The first edition of IIFA Utsavam in conjunction with the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries will be held later as a fundraiser for the flood victims. We are saddened by this disaster and our prayers and support are with the people of the city," said Timmins.
