Centre Unlikely To Shift Governor

If the reports from New Delhi are to be believed, the Narendra Modi government is unlikely to succumb to the pressures of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to shift Governor E S L Narasimhan for now.

Naidu is learnt to have made a strong pitch with the Prime Minister for immediate removal of the Governor for not coming to his rescue or set the things right on the telephone tapping issue.

Narasimhan reportedly told Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday that Naidu was exerting pressure on the Centre on Governors’ powers though Section 8 is not required in Hyderabad. However, the Centre might not yield to Naidu’s pressures, as shifting Narasimhan at this stage would send wrong signals to the people. Instead, it was asking the Governor to settle the issue by bringing both the Chief Minister to the negotiation table as he had done in the past.

Moreover, even if Narasimhan is removed, there is no guarantee that his incumbent would be favourable to Naidu, as the case against the AP Chief Minister is very strong.

The new Governor might even be tougher with Naidu. Apparently, the TDP chief is unhappy both with the Centre and the Governor as the entire episode is apparently dragging him into the issue.
