Can Separate Seema Movement Take Off?

The simmering discontent among the Rayalaseema leaders over selection of Amaravati as the new capital of Andhra Pradesh State is likely to snowball into a movement for separate Rayalaseema state, but it is doubtful whether the movement can really take off, given the credibility of the leaders.

Of late, Opposition leaders like M V Mysoora Reddy, D L Ravindra Reddy and for that matter, even TDP leaders like T G Venkatesh and Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy have been talking about starting the separate Rayalaseema movement in protest against the injustice meted out to Rayalaseema region.

Several YSR Congress party leaders, secretly supported by their leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, are coming out in the open in favour of separate Rayalaseema.

However, they have so far not able to generate any support from the local people. Given their role in the Samaikyandhra movement, there are absolutely no takers for their separate Rayalaseema talk now.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday dubbed the separate Rayalaseema movement as the joke of the decade.

"The leaders who are now heading the movement lost their credibility among the people of the State and they are slowly waning out of the public view. They have hence found a platform as part of their struggle for survival," Minister for Information and Public Relations and IT Palle Raghunatha Reddy said.
