Behind The Scene: An Ego Issue

Behind her calm demeanor is an iron will, an ego that brooks no insult. Sonia Gandhi is the kind of lady who does not tolerate dissent of any sort.

When the UPA first announced the T-decision in 2009, the resignation of the Seemandhra ministers en masse stunned her and caught her unawares.

Since then, though she did set up the SriKrishna commission and took other steps in the name of an impartial approach to bifurcation, there was never any doubt in her mind that she would stick to her decision to give Telangana.

In the current mayhem witnessed at Parliament, many people think that Sonia is still keen on T because of the political equations which would veer in favor of Rahul, but the truth is that it is not the political angle alone for Sonia.

The T question is now a personal issue for her, an ego issue, not just a political one. If she cannot have her way over such an important issue, there is no way she can expect to command respect from her coalition partners and from the Congress Party itself.

Unfortunately, the Seemandhra people have to pay the price for her adamant but insensible stand.
