Vijayawada: The tenure of Andhra Pradesh DGP J V Ramudu is all set to end soon. Naturally, his replacement is a matter of interest to the people as well as the media.
Ramudu was a trusted lieutenant of Naidu and was handpicked by the latter as he belonged to the same community as Naidu.
After Ramudu, the senior most officers are SA Huda and Ramana Murthy. But here’s the thing! Naidu is believed to be seriously contemplating Sambasiva Siva Rao, current APSRTC chief as the next DGP. Why?
Because Mr. Samba Siva Rao is from the Kapu community and his appointment would assuage the feelings of that community in the present turmoil.
Mr. Sambasiva Rao is definitely a capable officer. When he served as the CP of Vizag, he earned the respect of the city with his tough style of policing. But with all due respect, shouldn’t ability be the sole criteria for such important appointments?
If CBN wants to appoint him as the top cop, it should be purely on the basis of ability and not casteist considerations.
What might work in Naidu’s favor is the good record Mr. Sambasiva Rao has. Having said that, can Naidu trust a Kapu DGP and an honest man at that, to carry out his bidding regarding threatening farmers for land acquisitions etc?
Ramudu did that for Naidu; will Sambasiva Rao too toe the line?
