Ban On Big Notes: Naidu Got Leak Well In Advance?

Did Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu get the leak from his Delhi friends well in advance on the ban on currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations?

This is the suspicion being raised in some sections of the media, since Naidu came up with the demand almost a month ago.

On October 12, he wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to ban currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations immediately, so as to check those who are buying votes and misusing the people's mandate.

Though nobody had a doubt at that time and some people even ridiculed his demand, the sudden decision by Modi on Tuesday night to ban the big currency notes, exactly as per the demand of Naidu, raised many eyebrows. So, people started wondering how the Prime Minister could heeded Naidu’s demand so quickly.

His political rivals suspect that Naidu might have got the indications from his “sources” in the Modi government about the plans to ban the big notes. And he could have taken steps to convert whatever black money he might have had into various forms. After that his family declared the assets to mislead the public.

“Now, he is taking credit for the Modi government’s decision to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes,” he said.
