The TDP, which already lost its existense in all Telangana districts barring Hyderabad after bifurcation of AP in 2014, has now lost its identity even in Hyderabad with the latest GHMC election results announced on Friday.
The TDP which fought GHMC elections in alliance with BJP, faced an humiliating defeat at the hands of TRS by winning just one seat in Kukatpally division, while the BJP won 4 seats.
TDP-BJP together had to satisfy with single digit seats of 6.
Both these parties together won 14 MLA seats out of 24 in 2014 Assembly elections, with TDP winning 9 seats and BJP 5. On the other hand, TRS won only 2 MLA seats while MIM won 7 seats.
But 4 MLAs from TDP from Sanathanagar (Talasani Srinivas Yadav), Kukatpally (Madhavaram Krishna Rao), Secunderabad Contonment (G.Sayanna) and Maheshwaram (Teegala Krishna Reddy) defected to TRS later.
The TDP is now left with 5 MLAs only in Jubilee Hills, Qutbullapur, Rajendranagar, Sherilingampally and Patancheru.
With shocking results in GHMC, the remaining five MLAs too are making moves to join TRS anytime soon anticipating no future for TDP in Telangana.
TRS party sources said Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath, Qutbullapur MLA Vivekanand and Sherilingampally MLA A Gandhi already sent indications to TRS party leadership over quitting TDP and joining TRS but TRS chief KCR is yet to give his nod.
If all goes well, these three MLAs are set to join TRS before the commencement of budget session of Assembly in March.
Political analysts opine that TDP could surive in Telangana due to its strength of 9 MLAs in Hyderabad along with 6 MLAs of BJP but got weakened after its four MLAs defected to TRS.
With three more TDP MLAs making plans to join TRS soon and remaining two also in the pipeline, political analysts see the latest GHMC election results could become the last nail in TDP's coffin in Telangana and eventually it needs to shut its shop in Telangana once for all sooner or later and confine to just AP.
