Andhra Pradesh government has finally come out officially with the demand for granting of special category status to the state.
Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana E S L Narasimhan on Monday pronounced the demand for special category status to AP, while addressing the joint session of AP assembly and council at Amaravati.
Referring to the pending assurances given in the AP Reorganisation Act, the Governor categorically said the Centre had no option but to grant the special category status to AP at any cost.
Apart from the SCS, Narasimhan said all the promises made in the Act, including Railway Zone for Visakhapatnam, Dugarajapatnam port in Nellore and the division of assets between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, besides releasing the promised amount towards revenue deficit should also be fulfilled at the earliest.
“My government has been negotiating with the Centre to get all these demands fulfilled. There is no question of any compromise on them,” the Governor said.
Since the Governor’s address is nothing but an official statement of the Telugu Desam Party government, it can be considered as the official stand of the TDP.
It does mean, the TDP has gone back on its stand of getting adjusted with special financial package and is now demanding the SCS, for which the opposition parties are fighting all these years!
