Hyderabad: Seldom is this university in the news for the right reasons. At best, it can be characterized as a hotbed of agitations and social unrest.
Is it any wonder then that Osmania University emerged as the least preferred choice for those aspiring for the post of Vice-Chancellor?
Responding to the Telangana government’s notification for recruitment of vice-chancellors to nine state-owned universities in Telangana, more than 1200 applications were received.
Of them, the maximum applications were received for BR Ambedkar Open University and Palamuru University. Osmania was the last choice with 142 applicants.
And understandably, since there are always law and order issues on campus, one agitation or the other crippling life, constant postponement of exams for the past five years, communally motivated incidents like the beef-festival etc which always put the authorities and society on tenterhooks.
Osmania University is the only which probably doesn’t need an academic but an anti-terror squad expert designated as VC.
