If one were to go by the claims of Union minister for information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu, majority people of Andhra Pradesh are happy with the special package granted by the Centre for the development of the state.
Speaking at his felicitation function organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and cadre at Vijayawada on Saturday, Venkaiah said special category status would be given only to those states which cannot be developed in normal course.
“But AP has all resources for development. The only way to achieve this development is through special package of funds,” he said.
He said people were clever enough to see through the evil designs of the Opposition parties. They know what they want. That is why they are all happy with the kind of package announced by the Centre, he said.
Venkaiah felt that Andhra Pradesh would have developed a lot by this time, had it been separated from Telangana in 1972 itself.
“The facet of AP would have changed by now. But the Congress leaders opposed the division for their selfish reasons,” he said.
