A Year Of Deep Disappointment

A Year Of Deep Disappointment

In recent times, no politician's popularity graph has plummeted so drastically as that of Chandrababu Naidu.

It’s been only a year since the people of AP voted him to power as the CM of bifurcated AP. They felt that he would replicate the success of Hyderabad in AP as well. But all their hopes have been dashed.

In fact, if elections were held right now, it would be a disaster for the TDP. Such has been their functioning over the year culminating in the horrifying tragedy at Rajahmundry.

After promising an ‘across-the-board’ loan waiver for famers, he unabashedly went back on his promise by attaching riders to it and now not even 10% farmers have had their loans waived off. It is the same with DWCRA and self- help groups.

And the land grabbing he is indulging in the name of new capital and development will put even the worst tyrants in history to shame.

Nearly 40000 acres in Krishna region, 15,000 acres in Bhogapuram and God knows where else. Despite being an ally of the BJP, he could not get that Party to fulfill its promise of a special status to AP. Yet he continues to hobnob with them.

He got Sujana Chowdary, an acknowledged loan defaulter, a berth in the Union Cabinet. Another Union Minister is Ashok Gajapathi Raju who carries match-boxes on airplanes and is proud of the fact that he’s never been frisked. And another TDP MP, Pandula Ravindra says that people join the army only for free liquor and meat and no action is taken against him.

The state is being mortgaged to Singapore and no one seems to be able to stop him. Citing lack of funds for the new state, he is indulging on mega-renovations for his travel vehicles and his residences in Hyderabad.

His jet-hopping to China, Japan and other countries have yielded no tangible results so far. And now the ‘cash-for-vote’ scam has completely dented his image.

With months of planning and Rs 1600 crore fund earmarked for the Pushkarams, his government could not prevent the tragedy at Rajahmundry. There are still four more years left for his administration. A really, really scary thought indeed.
