A temporary capital now! Or Tughlaq reborn as Naidu?

A temporary capital now! Or Tughlaq reborn as Naidu?

After a lot of controversy Naidu finally got the ‘Capital Region Development Authority Bill’ (CRDA) in the Assembly.

And one would think that it would have been the end of the matter! But he staked a new controversy by calling for the construction of a make-shift or temporary capital until the new capital is ready.

Faced with space constraint in Hyderabad and determined to move the administration to AP, the government has decided to construct a make-shift administrative township with pre-fabricated structures and the Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (Incap) has been entrusted with building the temporary capital.

On a war footing, Incap on Friday initiated the process of selecting a consultancy firm for preparation of blueprint.

‘Incap’ has been entrusted with the responsibility of creating temporary office space for accommodating heads of government. The temporary capital will come up in Amaravathi township of Mangalagiri.

The sad part is that there are many government buildings in Vijayawada and Guntur which can be used as a temporary secretariat. However, by deciding to go in for fresh construction of a temporary capital, Naidu is once again toying with the tax payer’s money!

All his actions give rise to the suspicion that they are aimed at benefitting only one coterie. In fact, his decisions so far are reminiscent of Tughlaq’s reign!

Remember Tughlaq shifting the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad and then from Daulatabad to Delhi? What next, Mr. Naidu? A ‘temporary capital’ for the ‘temporary capital’?
