CID targets Narayana again, raids his family

As former minister and senior Telugu Desam Party leader Ponguru Narayana managed to get relief from the courts which directed the Andhra police not to initiate any action against him, the Crime Investigation Department has started targeting his family members.

On Friday, the CID conducted searches in the residences and offices of Narayana’s daughters in connection with illegal purchase of lands on benami names in Amaravati capital city. 

The CID carried out searches in the Hyderabad-based residences of Narayana’s daughters Sindhura and Sharani. 

According to the CID sources, Narayana, who was then municipal administration and urban development, played a key role in preparing the Master Plan of the Capital city/Seed Capital area by guiding the Master Planner M/s Surbana Jurong, owing to his position as the Vice-Chairman of the APCRDA

The CID alleged that by using his position in the high-level committee, Narayana could select the particular 6.84 sq.km of land to be ring fenced as “Seed Area.” 

Using the prior privileged information about the location of the Start-up Area, he purchased 65.50 acres of agricultural lands through benami transactions, located in and around the Start-up area during June, July, and August 2015 for Rs 4.23 crore.

The land was bought in the name of Avula Muni Shankar (who is cousin of Narayana’s wife P Ramadevi) Potturi Prameela who is an employee of M/s NSPIRA Management Services Pvt. Ltd, (managed by Narayana’s daughter Sindhuja and son-in-law Puneeth Kothapa), Narayana’s brother-in-law Rapuru Sambasiva Rao and Puneeth’s brother Varun Kumar Kothapa. 

Bulk deposits and transfer of funds were made in to the accounts of Prameela, Muni Shankar, Sambasiva Rao just prior to the purchase of those lands and lands were purchased in their names as the benamidars of Narayana, the CID said.

As alleged in the past, the CID also charged Narayana with meddling with designing the alignment of the Inner Ring Road (Eastern By-pass segment for Vijayawada), and changed it 2-3 kilometres away from the 100 feet road from Tadigadapa to Enikepadu , closer to 7 of the campuses of Narayana Educational Institutions. He also got changes in the IRR made for the benefit of Lingamaneni Group and Heritage Foods Pvt. Ltd.

The CID also alleged that Narayana, his family members and relatives as benamis , illegally purchased 148 acres of assigned lands in Amaravathi capital city.
