Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom hit theatres with high expectations but couldn’t surpass the opening day numbers of his previous film Liger.
According to box office reports, Kingdom collected ₹15 crore on day one. While this marks an improvement over his last release The Family Star (₹5.75 crore), it falls short of Kushi (₹15.25 crore) and Liger (₹15.95 crore), the latter being his biggest opener to date.
The Telugu-language action-drama recorded a 56.73% occupancy on Thursday. Morning shows saw strong turnout at 63.56%, which declined to 56.52% in the afternoon and further dropped to 50.12% by night.
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Kingdom follows Suri, a police constable-turned-spy (played by Vijay Deverakonda), who travels to Sri Lanka on an undercover mission for the Indian government while searching for his long-lost brother, Siva (Satyadev).
Bhagyashri Borse stars as Suri’s love interest.
