The Bengaluru City Civil and Session Court has directed prison officials to provide actor Darshan with basic comforts as per the prison manual.
Darshan, who is jailed in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, accused of cyberbullying Darshan’s girlfriend Pavithra Gowda, had pleaded before the court about inhuman treatment in prison.
The court, however, rejected a request by jail officials to transfer him from Bengaluru to Ballari, stating no valid reason was given.
During the hearing, Darshan broke down and pleaded for poison, saying he had been kept in a dark room for a month without sunlight, forced to sleep on a mat and served food in unhygienic conditions.
He said the cell stank, he suffered from a fungal infection, and officials refused any request without a court order. Shocked, the judge denied his request but assured fair treatment.
Later, the court ordered officials to allow Darshan daily corridor walks, a bed and a pillow. This tells how harsh the jail life would be if one lands there.
This order comes after the Supreme Court had earlier cancelled his bail over images showing him enjoying undue privileges inside prison.
Following that, jail authorities had reportedly kept him in harsh isolation.
