US BO: Not-So-Great Weekend for Telugu Releases

Of the three films that released last Friday, Nithin's "LIE" failed to get above average opening at the US box-office.

His earlier film had received a massive $2.49 million and Nithin was hoping to repeat the magic with "LIE". But the Hanu Raghavpudi directed film managed to make a mere $200k in its opening weekend, due to its content. Also, the film's word of mouth talk and reviews were also not positive.

Added to that, the film lost out due to competition. Such non-entertainment movies require solo release and Nithin's "LIE" received a jolt.

LIE: Thur 55k, Fri 54k, Sat 60k, Sun 30k (apprx), Total: $200k

Rana proved his mettle once again and showed that he can draw audiences to his movies. After "Ghazi", he managed above average opening.

"Nene Raju Nene Mantri" took in nearly $450k in its opening weekend. Given the movie’s genre, it is a pretty good opening.

NRNM: Thu 140k, Fri 122k, Sat 136k Sun 55k (apprx) Total: $454k

On the other hand, Boyapati is not a force to reckon with in the overseas market though his movies perform strongly in domestic market. His latest “Jaya Janaki Nayaka” also grossed below $100k in its opening weekend.

JJN: Thur 9k, Fri 19k, Sat 31k, Sun 16k (apprx) Total: $76k

Meanwhile, “Fidaa” added another $30k to its kitty over this weekend.

Krishna Vamsi’s Nakshatram ended its total run with $8,034, which is a rather dismal figure for a Krishna vamsi movie.

Other recent releases also ended their run with paltry amounts -- ‘Darshakudu’ with $8,478 and ‘Vaisakham’ with $287.
