Sonu Nigam needs no introduction. This singer with magical voice has a great fan following in north and south equally with his thousands of songs.
He has the capacity to tune his voice in any language like a native singer. Telugu listeners, too, enjoy Sonu’s voice a lot in many of his songs.
He has a long standing in the film industry and has proved a man of principles: he refuses to sing any song that has no lyrical values.
He made it clear that he would not sing any song that has vulgar lyrics and meaningless words. He even differed with music maestro A R Rahman in this regard and refused to sing the song composed by him.
Narrating his experience with Rahman, Sonu said if he had to sing a song in Telugu or Tamil, he would get the lyrics translated into Hindi or English so that he would understand the meaning of the song.
On one of the occasions, he told Rahman that he would not like to sing the song composed by the latter, as it had absolutely no lyrical values, besides having double-meaning wordings.
“Rahman may be a big music director. But I didn’t want to violate my own principles. So, I walked out of the recording theatre,” he said.
It is commendable on the part of a singer to stick to such principles at a time when lyrical values have become a rarity in the film industry. That is why Sonu Nigam stands apart in the world of singers!
