Rajamouli's epic drama "Baahubali The Beginning" has a good beginning at Chinese box-office. The film was released last Friday in China in about 6000 screens, a record release for an Indian movie.
"Baahubali The Beginning" took an estimated 0.63 million dollars in its opening weekend.
According to a Chinese box-office website, it debuted with estimated ¥4.2M ($0.63M) in the first weekend. The film has tough competition from Asian Superstar Jackie Chan's new comedy action film “Skiptrace” that grossed $60 million four day opening in China.
"Baahubali" is the first Telugu film to have wide release in mainland China. E Star, a top Chinese distribution, company bought the movie's distribution rights for a whopping price. If it becomes a good hit, the same distribution company reportedly promised to buy the rights for "Baahubali 2" at much bigger price.
How much more it would collect remains to be seen. "Baahubali The Beginning" featured Prabhas, Rana, Anushka and Tamannah in the main lead, with the direction by S S Rajamouli and production by Arca Media.
M M Keeravani has composed the music. "Baahubali The Beginning" was a smash hit in India and it is third all-time biggest Indian hit.
