USA BO: Bad Weekend for Telugu Films

USA BO: Bad Weekend for Telugu Films

The collections for the last weekend were terribly low. It has turned out to be totally disaster weekend for Tollywood.

The year started on glorious note with all movies drawing collections. But this weekend put break to the successful run of Telugu movies in USA.

Suriya's "Singham 3" that was released with Telugu and Tamil versions grossed about $300k in its opening weekend. Tamil version got more collections than the Telugu version.

Though it would be a loss venture for the overseas distributor, the collections for the film were better compared to other movies during the weekend.

Nagarjuna who gave three blockbusters in USA in a row since "Manam" has failed to bring the audiences to the theaters with "Om Namo Venkatesaya".

The film had witnessed lowest openings for a big starrer in the recent times. Although it picked up the collections on Saturday, the overall opening weekend's gross is less than $200k.

If the movie picks up with Tuesday low-price promotional event, then distributor may heave sigh of relief. Otherwise, the distributor would end up in huge losses. It was reportedly bought for Rs 6 Cr.

Nani's "Nenu Local" in its second weekend did fairly average business. The movie has crossed the total life-time gross of Nani's earlier hit "Gentleman" ($901k) and is now inching towards one-million dollars. Trade pundits expected that it would collect huge amount this weekend but it did only average business.
