Sad news about Dr V Harnatha Reddy

Haranatha (VH) Reddy, a pediatrician and long-standing resident of Scottsboro, Alabama passed away friday after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 80.

Dr. Reddy is survived by his wife, Dr. Snehaprabha Reddy, his children, Dr. Seenu Reddy (Meera Ballal) of Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Radha Reddy Cohen (Zach Cohen) of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Madhavi Reddy King (Rhett King) of New Orleans, Louisiana and eight grandchildren (Sirina, Amelia, Lara, Samuel, Alexander, Anasuya, Leela and Harrison).

He is predeceased by his brother, Dr. Damodara Reddy of Birmingham, Alabama and his sisters Venkamma of  Mabhunagar and Rajalakshmi of Hyderabad, India. 

He is survived by his youngest brother, Parthasarathi Reddy of Hyderabad.

Haranatha Reddy was born in Gadwal, India on June 12, 1938 to Venkatapuram Dharma and Ananthama Reddy. 

He graduated from Nizam College with degrees in Botany and then went on to the Kakathiya Medical College/Osmania University to receive his medical degree. 

He completed his Internship in Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City and his Pediatrics residency at Kings County Hospital/Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and served as director of the Ambulatory Pediatrics Division there.

He was married to Dr. Snehaprabha Keesara of Ratnavaram on March 17, 1968 in Hyderabad, India. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. 

He emigrated to the United States on April 1, 1968 arriving in Chicago and residing in Kansas City, MO and New York City prior to settling in Scottsboro, Alabama.  When he arrived in Scottsboro in 1977, he was the first board certified pediatrician to establish practice in Northeast Alabama. 

He went on to have a distinguished career, with a clinical faculty appointment to the Huntsville campus of the University of Alabama School of Medicine and being designated as a Master Pediatrician for the State of Alabama in 2000. 

He served as Chief of Staff of his hospital, president of the County Medical Society and as a representative to the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. 

He also served as President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He was an active Rotarian and was presented the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow’s Award.  

He was active on the Board of First National Bank of Scottsboro and retired as an Emeritus Director.  He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.

Haranatha Reddy was a devoted husband, father and friend to many.  He enjoyed travel, swimming, family and the practice of pediatrics. 

He was devoted to improving the health of the children of Jackson County. 

He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends and the many patients that came to know him through the years.

Funeral Services are scheduled for West Harpeth Funeral Home in Nashville, TN , on Sunday, April 7, 2018. In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to the Scottsboro Chapter of Rotarians International or The Childrens Hospital of Alabama.
