An Article That Questioned The Judiciary

S Gurumurthy, a columnist in 'Indian Express' wrote a scathing article questioning the interpretations of the supreme court in the Dayanidhi Maran case.

Gurumurthy was critical of the Supreme Court saying that Maran was ready to pay the amount of Rs 1 crore and ten lakhs.

The loss to the public was not just Rs 1 crore ten lakhs said Gurumurthy. That amount was only for the expenses incurred in laying an exclusive telephone exchange for the Maran residence.

In total, the cost for BSNL in laying down an exchange with 370 lines and another 323 exchanges routed to it exclusively for Maran, ran into hundreds of crores, said Gurumurthy.

He also questioned as to whether the Attorney General of India pointed out the enormity of the Marans’ crime before the judiciary.

Gurumurthy reminded the readers that in 2014, a 76 year-old man after a 30 year trial was sentenced to a year and half in prison for taking a bribe of Rs 250.

And looking at the leniency being shown to the Marans’, he sought to draw the parallel that the judiciary behaves in a different manner towards the high and mighty in India.
