Vanga Geeta Vs Tadi Sakunthala

Vijayawada: Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam launching programme in Tirupathi had brought two women to the forefront.

Former MP, Vanga Geeta, a Kapu from East Godavari district and Vijayawada former mayor Tadi Sakunthala clinched the limelight on the day with interacting to the media before the launch of the party.

Vanga Geeta, a close associate of late G M C Balayogi, also served as chairperson of East Godavari zilla parishad and was active in Telugu Desam for more than a decade. But, when she was dropped from Rajya Sabha, she has been keeping a low profile. She had now joined the Praja Rajyam with high hopes on her future political career. She is aspiring to be the head of the women wing of the Praja Rajyam.

Tadi Sakunthala is a born Communist, student leader, teachers’ union leader and later became Mayor of Vijayawada city. Her father, Tadi Appala Swamy from West Godavari, was one of the founder members of the Communist party in the State. She was active during her student life in Vijayawada and later became leader of the teachers’ union (STU), affiliated to the CPI. A prolific orator, Sakunthala, quit the CPI and joined Praja Rajyam. She has been also addressing a number of meetings of the Chiru followers in the coastal districts and commands good respect among youth, particularly the BCs and women.

With film actress, Suhasini, turning down the offer to be the head of the Praja Rajyam’s women wing, both Geeta and Sakunthala have set their eyes on it. Now that the party became a reality, discussions are doing round that either of the two would be made president of the women wing.
