Congress Survey On Telangana?

After all the hype and hoopla over an imminent announcement on Telangana, it seems the issue is back to square one.

The Congress high command, after several hectic rounds of consultations, is said to have put on hold a final decision.

In the meantime, it wants to commission a survey to gauge the public mood and its own electoral prospects in the region.

The objective of the survey is to get a comparative picture of the party's prospects in different scenarios.

How would the people react if a decision is taken to create a separate Telangana state comprising 10 districts including Hyderabad and how many Lok Sabha seats that the Congress could bag in such a  scenario.

It is also to be ascertained whether the party would gain significantly if Rayala Telangana was to be formed by merging Kurnool and Anantapur districts with the Telangana region.

And, finally what would be the party's fate at the hustings if status quo is maintained and to what extent the financial package for Telangana would be able to satisfy the people of the region.

It is said that the Congress leadership is keen on getting the feedback from the field before announcing its final decision to resolve the Telangana imbroglio.

Though the Telangana Congress leaders have claimed  that the party would be able to bag 16 out of the total 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana if separate state is announced, the central leadership is not convinced about their optimism.
