Two held for trying to abduct, molest techie in Hyderabad

Two persons, including an autorickshaw driver, were arrested for allegedly trying to abduct and molest a girl in the city, police said.

A Jangaiah, the autorickshaw driver, and his accomplice - Bitin Kumar - of Odisha were arrested last night with the help of video footage recorded by the surveillance camera at one of the junctions, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said.

The 22-year-old engineering graduate from BITS, Pilani, who hails from Maharashtra, sustained injuries when she jumped out of a moving autorickshaw after a man allegedly tried to molest her on Tuesday evening, he said.

After receiving call, we immediately swung into action and formed teams, which cracked the case within 24 hours, the commissioner said.

The girl, working as a software engineer, had hired a shared autorickshaw to Ameerpet from Madhapur hi-tech city at around 7.45pm on February 19.

While three-four of the co-passengers got off at their destinations on way, a man seated with her tried to hold her hand when the vehicle was near Gachibowly. The autorickshaw driver also took another direction instead of proceeding towards Ameerpet, police said.

Realising that something was amiss, the girl jumped out of the autorickshaw and sent an SMS to her friend, who alerted police.

A passerby, who found the girl lying on the road near Gachibowly, took her to a nearby hospital and he, too, called the police.

The girl suffered head injuries and was undergoing treatment in a corporate hospital here. (PTI)
