KCR Screwing Up Telangana Plan?

The Centre has taken a decision in favour of Telangana state formation, but is hesitant to make an announcement thanks to the rigid stand being adopted by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao.

According to highly placed sources in New Delhi, the Centre has agreed to form the Telangana state, but has proposed to make Hyderabad as common capital for five or 10 years. The Delhi bosses reportedly discussed with KCR through hotline with him in his Medak farmhouse and put forth a condition that they would make an announcement only if he agrees to merge his party with the Congress.

However, the TRS president reportedly expressed reluctance to accept the proposal and wanted the formation of Telangana with Hyderabad as capital. He told them that no other proposal would be acceptable for him. The Centre can go ahead with its original plan, but it would not give any mileage if KCR does not cooperate. That is how there is a stalemate, say sources.

Interestingly, the Congress leaders from Telangana are okay for Hyderabad as common capital for a few years. Even Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy is learnt to have advised the Telangana leaders to be flexible on Hyderabad status and told them that there would be no harm if Hyderabad remains a common capital for a certain period. The Andhra leaders would any way lose interest on Hyderabad after a few years, he told them.
