Danam Changes Telangana Tune Again!

“Appudappudu opinions change chestuntene gaani politician kaaneradu..” (One cannot become a politician if he does not change his opinions quite often) – is the popular dialogue in the famous Telugu drama “Kanya Sulkam” written by Gurajada Appa Rao.

This dialogue aptly applies to our labour minister and Hyderabad brother Danam Nagender. In the last few weeks, he has changed his tune on the Telangana statehood issue several times. The latest dialogue from him is that he is not against the Telangana statehood and that he did not really meant holding a referendum among the people of Hyderabad on the Telangana statehood issue.

He clarified to the media on Tuesday that he had never opposed separate state for Telangana and that he was the first signatory to the memorandum signed by 41 Telangana Congress MLAs in the year 2000 demanding separate statehood the region.

“What I have been saying is that the interests of all sections of people in Hyderabad should be protected. That does not mean they are all opposed to Telangana state,” he said.

On the referendum issue, Nagender said he had made the observation only to counter the demand for Union Territory status to Hyderabad.

“My statement is being misinterpreted by the media stating that I am against Telangana and for separate state to Greater Hyderabad. I did not mean it actually,” he said.

Perhaps, Nagender has got the hint that the Centre might grant Telangana and that he would be an odd man out in the Telangana region, if he does not support the Telangana state.
