The proposed state-level convention of the Pradesh Congress Committee scheduled to be held on September 23 to do brainstorming on resurrecting the party at all levels has been postponed indefinitely, thanks to the Telangana heat.
PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana told the media that the convention had been posted because of internal reasons. Sources, however, say the PCC president had to take a decision following the demand from Telangana leaders that there should be a separate convention for Telangana and that they would not attend the state-level convention.
Congress MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivek and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy met the PCC president and suggested that it was not proper to convene a state-level convention in view of the growing demand for separate Telangana. They told him that they would write a letter to party convenor Ghulam Nabi Azad seeking separate conventions for Telangana and Seemandhra regions.
Botsa had no option but to cancel the meeting and deferred it to a later date. He, however, said regional conventions would be held only after holding the state-level PCC meeting.
