Teluugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to write a letter to the Centre in support of Telangana is going to be yet another historic blunder and might even turn out to the nemesis for the party.
Considering to be a master strategist and wily politician, Naidu himself admitted in the past that he had committed a historic blunder by forging alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi before 2009 elections and allotting large number of seats to it. He lamented several times that had he not allied with the TRS, his party would have come to power.
But analysts believe that what he is doing now by deciding to write a letter to the Centre in favour of Telangana is no different from the strategy he had adopted before 2009 elections. While the party’s position in the Seemandhra region at present is bad, it is sure to turn worse if he decides to support Telangana. On the other hand, the TDP position is unlikely to turn from bad to good; it will continue to remain bad.
Indications are that Naidu is likely to lose many of his senior leaders in the Seemandhra region, who had already hinted that they might have to look for alternative political arrangements, if the TDP supports Telangana. “We may be forced to choose our own ways, if necessary,” a Seemandhra TDP leader said.
And Naidu cannot run the party with leaders like Devender Goud or Errabelli Dayakar Rao. He would become a loner in the party!
