YSR Congress party honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi’s demand for reservation of 100 assembly seats for Backward Classes came up for intense debate in the media on Monday.
Vijayamma made the demand while reacting to Telugu Desam Party’s BC declaration in which he said he would give 100 party tickets to BCs in the next assembly elections. She said it was nothing great in fielding 100 BC candidates and challenged him to see that 100 BCs get elected to the assembly. And she wanted that all political parties should come to an understanding
Many leaders felt that her demand for 100 seats for BCs is not practicable. “It is not possible to identify the constituencies with high BC population and allot seats for them. It requires a Constitutional amendment to see that 100 seats are reserved for BCs and they should be changed on rotation basis. It cannot be implemented so easily,” a political analyst said.
TDP leaders say Vijayamma had written the letter to Chandrababu Naidu only out of ignorance and to gain political mileage. “She needs to make deep study of politics before making such demands,” TDP leader B Satyanarayana Murthy said.
