Maverick evangelist K A Paul, who had once travelled in chartered flights across the globe, had to face a humiliating experience in the late hours of Friday, when he was virtually dragged by the police on the road to dump him into vehicle.

Paul, who was arrested in connection with his alleged role in the murder of his brother David Raj two years ago, was undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad on complaint of chest pain. Obviously, he wanted to avoid being sent to jail, as the court had given him bail. However, he continued to stay in the jail, though doctors declared him completely fit.

As a result, the Ongole police swooped on the hospital in civil dress late on Friday and tried to forcibly evict Paul from the hospital. Paul raised an alarm saying he was being kidnapped by his rivals to kill him. But the police dragged him on the road as he was resisting their efforts and dumped him in jail. For a person who had got international recognition as a preacher, it was a sad development!
