Former minister and Telangana Nagara Samithi president Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Thursday found fault with Congress party president Sonia Gandhi for shouting down her party MPs from Telangana on the floor of Lok Sabha.
Reacting to Sonia’s chiding of Telangana MPs for raising their voice in the Lok Sabha in support of Telangana statehood demand, Nagam wondered whether Sonia did not believe in democracy.
“She should remember that she is in the Indian democracy, not in Italian democracy. The elected representatives have every right to express the desire of their people on the floor of the House,” he said.
The Telangana leader, who represents Nagarkurnool constituency in Mahbubnagar district, felt that Sonia should not have pulled up the MPs so openly.
“She has insulted the people of Telangana with her behaviour. She should tender an apology and take an early decision on the statehood demand,” Nagam said.
