Naidu Imitates NTR, Squats On The Road

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday emulated his father-in-law N T Rama Rao in squatting on the main road of Banjara Hills stalling traffic for a long time, in support of BC students agitating against dilution of fee reimbursement scheme.

In late 80’s, NTR made a similar protest on the road, when he was prevented from entering into Secretariat by the then PCC president Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. He squatted on the Secretariat road and virtually ran his office on the road. He even slept on the road, much to the embarrassment of the opposition party.

Naidu, too, squatted on the road near KBR park, when the police did not allow him to lead a rally of students from NTR Trust Bhavan to the Secretariat, where the cabinet sub-committee was meeting to discuss the fee reimbursement scheme issue. He threatened to launch a state-wide agitation if the government did not bear the entire cost of the scheme. Having no other option, the police had to arrest him after some time.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students stormed into the Secretariat taking the police by surprise and demanded that the government immediately release funds for the fee reimbursement scheme. The police became alert and arrested them later.
