Congress MPs from Telangana received a thorough dressing down from party president Sonia Gandhi for their drama on the statehood issue in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

On the first day of the monsoon session of parliament, the Telangana MPs tried to stall the proceedings of the Lok Sabha along with the Opposition party members who were attacking the government on its failure in containing the Asom riots. This has naturally irritated Sonia who called the MPs to her chamber later and pulled them up for raising their voice on the Telangana.

“I know the issue and we are working out an amicable solution. You need to have some patience. How can you join the opposition party members in stalling the House?” she reportedly asked them.

The MPs later told the media that Sonia did not chide them. “She only told us not to raise protests in Parliament. She assured to take a positive stand on Telangana,” they claimed.
