The proposed changes in the contentious fee reimbursement scheme by the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has turned out to be a noose around the Chief Minister, while giving a short in the arm for Telugu Desam Party president.

The TDP president, who had not implemented any major populist scheme during his regime, is now crying hoarse about the dilution of the scheme by the Kiran government which wants to partially impose burden on the backward classes students. Naidu went to the extent of saying that it was he who had first implemented the scheme, and not late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, but had to drop it due to financial crisis. Now, he wants that the government bear the entire expenditure of the scheme for the benefit of BC students.

Apparently, the TDP president is of the view that the BCs would revolt against the Congress party and return to his party fold. Naidu is already in the upbeat mood because his BC declaration got a very good response from the community. If he supports the fee reimbursement scheme, he might get further support from the BCs. Hence, all this drama. But whether the people would believe his crocodile tears remains to be seen.
